Director, writer and DOP. Gabylu Lara majored in Communication Media at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, she studied Directing Actors at the EICTV in Cuba and thanks to the support of the Arts and Culture Fund in Mexico (FONCA), she did a Master Degree on Film Direction in FAMU in Prague.
In 2007 she was part of the Berlinale Talent Campus thanks to her first short film. She has four short films: Todos aquí son putos, Still Life, Army of Me and (a)Life, which have participated in diverse International Film Festivals such as the New York Film Festival, the Clérmont Ferrand Film Festival, the Guanajuato International Film Festival and the Morelia International Film Festival. In 2008 her script Restaurante won the best prize at the Guanajuato Film Festival.
As a documentalist she worked with UNDP with a documentary called “Indigenous Identity and Democracy in Mexico” which had a successful exhibition at the UN headquarters in New York.
On advertising, she has been part of the Directors roast of important film production companies in Mexico, such as Cineconcepto and Postal Pictures. In 2015 she won the first and only Grand Prix in Mexican Cannes Lions history until now with a piece called “Intimate Words” for Leo Burnett and P&G.
Recently she finished her first fiction feature as a Director called “American Curious” which will premier commercially in Mexico in 2018. She is also working on a documentary about ancient wisdom around the world where she ́s doing the camera work as well.
