Anna Sandilands & Ewan McNicol are a filmmaking team whose work has screened at festivals around the world including Sundance, Tribeca, BFI London International Film Festival and SXSW. Anna & Ewan’s feature-length documentary, Uncertain, won the Albert Maysles Award for Best New Documentary Director at Tribeca 2015. The lush, mesmerizing story about a sparsely inhabited town and colorful cast of characters tucked away in an eastern Texas bayou, was also curated at New York’s MoMA in 2015 and London’s ICA (Institute of Contemporary Arts) this past spring. Uncertain makes it U.S. theatrical and television debuts later this year. Collectively Anna & Ewan have made the short films The Roper, Missing, Ufologist, Dirt Racer and Oil Man, which mine the intrigue and peculiarities of everyday life. And while their film work is documentary, it bridges the gap to narrative by portraying the truth of real people’s stories in cinematic and beautiful ways. Their commercials and content reflect a similar perspective, among them, this year’s “Live There” campaign for Airbnb via TBWA/Chiat/Day; its beautiful, candid travelogues make some of the world’s most intriguing places accessible to everyone. Other clients include Google, Apple, Nike, Nokia, Burt’s Bee’s and BlackBerry. Anna & Ewan’s work has received accolades including a Webby for Best Documentary, One Show awards, a BAFTA nomination, a Royal Television Society award and a Cannes Silver Lion. Anna & Ewan were named Filmmaker Magazine’s “25 Fresh Faces To Watch” in 2013.
