After moving continents as a teenager, South African born AJ started out her career whilst still at college in London, making tea and running on sets for Saturday morning TV. It was here that the seed of her passion started to grow, leading her on to study Film at The University of Westminster, and then join RSA Films, where she honed her now widely recognised skills in creative research, and began directing small self funded projects.
In 2013, AJ set up her own creative company, AJCollective, and began what has now become a 12-man creative research machine, churning out first class treatments for the biggest Productions Companies, Agencies and Directors worldwide.
It was this big love for Commercials that inspired her to direct more — shooting films in London, Cape Town, Rome, Copenhagen and most recently Iceland – utilising small and local crews with limited resources to realise her vision. She quickly began to receive recognition for her style of filmmaking — most notably from content giant Nowness. Being a die hard Liverpool fan, directing ’You’ll Never Walk Alone’ by Gerry and the Pacemakers – the official music video for the club’s anthem — was a particularly special moment in AJ’s budding directing career, and showcases the combination of raw humanity and brave sense of humour that permeates so much of her work. In January 2017 AJ joined Outsider for Global commercial representation.
